Abstract:

Uncertainty is an inherent part of every product designed. Structural optimization handles this issue traditionally by means of safety factors. Nondeterministic optimization methods promise however a more sophisticated handling of uncertainty. In this thesis, a reliability-based design optimization is conducted on a space frame section.
