Abstract:
In the present paper material characteristics of composite extruded profiles are analyzed in order to evaluate the joining feasibility by electromagnetic tube compression and conclusions for a joining strategy are drawn. Moreover, the forming behavior as well as resulting material characteristics of the composite material are analyzed. Therefore, composite extruded tubes with a diameter of 45 mm and a wall thickness of 5 mm made of AA6060 (matrix) and four reinforcing elements of the steel 1.4310 were joined exemplarily either by dominating force-fit or form-fit. The geometrical shape and microstructure before and after forming of composite extruded profiles are presented.
