Abstract:

Metal matrix composites (MMC) provide advantages to the world of mechanics. These materials might be remarkable, yet need to be analyzed carefully. This thesis performed eigenvalue buckling analysis under axial, lateral and combined loading cases on steel reinforced MMCs by comparing them to their isotropic correspondents, which were modeled as cylindrical tubes. The experience from these buckling analyses was transferred to a bigger frame; the chassis of an electric car. The chassis was optimized by using the semi-analytical method with stability constraints and constraints from loading cases of torsion and bending. The semi-analytical method was embedded properly and an optimum was reached.
