Abstract:

This term project examines two methods to soften the constraints of an optimisation problem to be solved using a genetic algorithm. The softening of constraints allows a more accurate modelling of reality during the solution, in keeping with the goals of the Transregio 10 project to integrate optimisation early and flexibly into the design process. The theoretical background of the two methods is explored and a MATLAB implementation presented which is then demonstrated using two examples.
